Microfinance Statistics In early 2012 the MFWG started collecting performance data from its members in order to launch a Performance Monitoring system with the objective to increase sector transparency. 17 organizations participated in this premiere. They delivered up-to-date information (as per 31 December 2011) about their outreach, productivity, financial performance, and portfolio quality. The data was consolidated and is presented in the matrix attached. Lao MFI Performance Benchmarking Data (31 December 2011), MFWG June 2012 [Download pdf] Based on the submitted performance monitoring data submitted by 17 MFIs in early 2012 (see above), MFWG designed a Performance Benchmarking Matrix which only contains the averages of the Lao MFI peer groups and compares those with peer groups of MFIs from neighboring countries (Vietnam and Cambodia) and the Philippines, as well as a larger group of 37 “East Asia & Pacific Small Scale” MFIs Microfinance in the Lao PDR 2009, NERI and GIZ (2011) [Download pdf] From 2003 to 2006 the National Economic Research Institute (NERI) of the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) conducted and published four annual rural and microfinance surveys under the Microfinance Capacity Building and Research Project (MCBR), supported by Concern Worldwide. Due to a lack of funding no surveys were carried out in 2007 and 2008. The present survey for the year 2009 has been supported by GIZ through BoL and MPI and the report provides complete primary data on the supply of microfinance in Laos including the formal and semi-formal microfinance sector in Laos.
